Schnebly Hill called out to us this morning. Named after T.C. Schnebly, the “founding father” of Sedona, the road is rocky and steep, but boy are the views magnificent. We should actually be thankful that only the road is named Schnebly because the town was going to be named after him, too. That name, however, had too many letters in it to be approved by the post office, so he decided to use his wife’s name, Sedona, instead.

We started from Flagstaff, so we could make the trek southward and have the vistas in front of us.

We stopped for a picnic lunch on the way down, and then decided to continue on to Oak Creek to check out the last of the fall leaves.

It was one of those very special days that make you grateful you’re along for the ride.
